5 Fitness Mistakes you may be making
Mistake #1: You do “ab work”
Back in the day, crunches were galore but yet people were still not getting the abs they wanted. In fact, there were even “ab” classes where instructors had participants doing various forms of crunches for 20+ minutes.
The key to lean abs, along with a clean diet, is to focus on the entire core & functionality of it.
Demonstrate: Weighted Chop, diagonally right to left
Mistake #2: Your workouts are cardio heavy
Running on a treadmill isn’t a waste of time, but if you don’t watch out, it easily can be. Our body adapts to exercises easily, which is why it is important to mix it up. Research shows that shorter bouts of intense cardiois not only more effective, but it is also less boring–so people stick with this regimen.
Mistake #3: You do one exercise at a time
As you have heard me say–we workout smarter, not longer. It is true that this is the key. Instead of doing lunges, turn them into lunging crunches, using multiple muscle groups at once for a more effective and shorter workout!
Mistake #4: You chat with your buddies in the gym
There is a time and place to hang out with your friends and the gym is not the place. In fact, you should be moving inbetween exercises so quickly that you only have time for a sip of water and to refocus on your next task.
Mistake #5: You don’t eat after your workout.
The first 15 minutes post-workout is key to refuel –the enzymes that help the body re-synthesize muscle glycogen are really most active in that first 15 minutes. The longer we wait to eat something, the longer it takes to recover.
